From creating short films on his uncle’s Super 8 camera, Declan Lowney is now a highly sought after director in television, film and commercial productions.

Humble Beginnings:

Growing up in Ireland, Lowney’s directorial debut was a documentary about the Wexford Film Festival. In the 80’s he worked for RTÉ, directing musical events which included the 1988 Eurovision Song Contest. Starting as a trainee assistant film editor, Lowney worked his way up to director by the age of 24.

The Switch to Comedy

After successful musical projects, including directing documentaries about The Velvet Underground, Take That and Bob Marley, Lowney met up with writers Graham Linehan            and Arthur Mathews to discuss a new sitcom. Although he didn’t get that job, the writers remembered him when they put a production team together for a new project, Father Ted. The show was a huge hit, and he helped the team pick up two BAFTA awards.

Aldi’s Shocking Stars

We had the chance to see Lowney’s sharp eye for a comical scene, when we worked with him on a series of adverts for Aldi. In each short advert our performers shocked other characters and viewers with their hidden sporting talents.

TV Star to Film Star

Father Ted made people really sit up and notice Lowney’s talent. Further television credits included Cold Feet and Little Britain, as well as making his film debut with Wild About Harry. In 2013 he was cast as director of the highly anticipated Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa.

Declan, Paul & Chris Snode Casting

In 2005, he collaborated with the comedian and writer Paul Whitehouse where he won another BAFTA for the TV series Help. We worked with both Declan and Paul in 2015 on a commercial for Aviva. Paul’s character displays Yoga skills, showing how relaxing it is to make a claim with the company.
