The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity is considered by many as the world’s biggest festival for the advertising and creative communications industry. The festival begins today and takes place over the next 5 days at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès in Cannes, France. There are expected to be around 11,000 representatives from 90 countries visiting the festival to celebrate the best of creativity in brand communication. There are 26 awards up for grabs at this year’s festival including awards for innovation, Digital craft and Entertainment.

The Cannes Lions Festival was inspired by the Cannes Film Festival and it first began in 1954, with 187 entries from 14 countries. The first Cannes Lion Festival took place in Venice, Italy, and the second festival took place in Monte Carlo. After that, the festival alternated between Cannes and Venice up until 1984 where it was announced that Cannes would be the permanent home of the Cannes Lion Festival. The newest Lion trophy to be added to be added to the awards at the festival was the Glass Lion trophy in 2015. The Lion trophy was inspired by the lion of the Piazza San Marco in Venice.

In 2016, Chris Snode Casting won 26 awards across 3 continents including 2 awards at the Cannes Lion Festival. The Guinness – Never Alone advert that we cast for took the top award at the Cannes Lion Festival in 2016 as it won the Glass Lion award. The Glass Lion award celebrates culture- shifting creativity and all entries for the award need to demonstrate ideas intended to change the world. The 2nd award we won at the 2016 Cannes Lion festival was the Gold Lion award. The Guinness- Never Alone advert that we worked on also won this award under the Alcoholic drinks category.
